The Philippine government’s plan to phase out traditional jeepneys through the Public Utility Vehicle Modernization Program (PUVMP) poses a significant threat to thousands of informal public transport workers in the Philippines. They have been the backbone of our transportation system, keeping the economy moving, connecting neighborhoods, and weaving our communities together. But with the looming phaseout, thousands of drivers and small operators risk of losing their jobs to large corporate enterprises and huge foreign investors.

Informal public transport workers led by PISTON have launched various strikes in defense of their jobs and rights against the corporate take-over of public transport and to demand a pro-people, worker-led just transition in public transport.
